This course is designed specifically for children aged 7 – 11 (KS2). We have been delivering this course in schools for some years now and find that the children really engage with the activities.
The emphasis is on what action should be taken in the event of an emergency, including:
- Getting an adults help
- Shouting for help (they tend to be very good at this aspect!)
- Phoning for an ambulance
The children are also taught at a very basic level:
- Recognition of a person who is not responsive
- Recognition of breathing / not breathing
- Placing someone into a recovery position
- Chest compressions
- How to help someone with a bleed
- How to help someone with a burn
We use a friendly manikin to engage the children and ensure that all activities are active and inclusive. Each child gets to wrap a bandage and act out some of the different scenarios.
This course has proven to be very useful as we have had a person saved by the actions of some of the children that have attended the course in the past.
We do not look to make profit from this course as we feel strongly that first aid should be learnt from an early age. All we ask in return is that our flyers are handed out to parents in the hope that we may generate some interest in our other courses that we have to offer. Depending on the location of the event, we may ask for a small contribution towards the costs of travel.
